Honeygain review: the truly passive option (and its limits)

Published Jul 30, 2026

Honeygain is the most genuinely passive program most beermoney lists include. It earns without any task at all. That makes it appealing, but it's also the one most worth being clear-eyed about, because "passive" here means "slow." The honest picture:

What it is

Honeygain pays you for sharing your unused internet bandwidth with its network. You install it, it sits in the background, and you earn based on how much bandwidth gets used. There's no survey, no receipt, no clicking. It's the closest thing to set-it-and-forget-it in beermoney.

The honest limitation

Passive also means slow. Honeygain's earnings are modest and depend on factors you don't fully control, so this is not a program that produces meaningful money quickly. Treat it as a small trickle running underneath a more active stack, not as a main earner. The cashout minimum is on the higher side, so reaching your first payout takes patience.

Is bandwidth-sharing safe?

It's a fair question. Honeygain routes commercial traffic (like price comparison and ad verification) through your connection. That's its business model, disclosed up front. Whether you're comfortable with it is a personal call. Some people happily run it, others prefer not to share their connection at all. Worth deciding deliberately rather than by default.

Payouts

Payout comes via PayPal or crypto once you reach the minimum, which is higher than most task-based programs. Check the current figure on the Honeygain program page here.

The referral angle

Unlike programs that pay a lifetime share, Honeygain's referral bonus is a one-time, capped amount. Worth grabbing when you join, but not the ongoing earner some other programs' referrals are. Draw a code so both sides get the bonus: use my Honeygain referral link.

Bottom line

Honeygain is legitimately passive and legitimately small. It earns its place as the quiet background layer of a stack (install it, forget it, and let it trickle) but don't expect it to carry your earnings, and do decide consciously whether you're comfortable sharing bandwidth.
