Referral link vs. referral code: what's the difference?
Published Sep 16, 2026 · updated Jul 30, 2026
Programs hand out referrals in two shapes, and knowing which is which saves you from the most common way people lose a signup bonus.
A referral code is a short string (something like ABC123) that you type into a box during signup, usually labeled "referral code," "invite code," or "promo code." A referral link is a full web address with the referral baked in: click it, land on the signup page, and the credit attaches automatically without typing anything.
Same job, different failure modes. With a code, the risk is missing the box. Some programs only show the referral field at signup, or bury it in settings with a time limit after registration. If you create the account first and go hunting for the field later, you may find it's already too late. With a link, the risk is the opposite: starting signup from somewhere else. If you click the link, then wander off and register from the app store or a fresh browser tab, the tracking never connects.
The rule that covers both: make the referral the very first step. Have the code copied or the link clicked before you begin registration, complete signup in that same session, and enter the code at the first opportunity the program offers, not later.
On this site, you'll get whichever shape the member submitted; the draw page labels it and gives you a copy button either way. Draw one and the page walks you through exactly what to do with what you get.
